Discovering the Evrotas River: Environmental Education for the Next Generation
On May 14th 2026, Dr. Leonidas Vardakas, Ichthyologist at the Kalamata Office of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research and Scientific Coordinator of the CASTOR project, delivered an environmental education programme at the 6th Primary School of Goritsa Skouras entitled “Discovering the Evrotas River”.
The students had the opportunity to learn about the Evrotas River, its unique flora and fauna, with special emphasis on freshwater fish species and the challenges currently faced by the ecosystem.
Through presentations and discussion, the importance of protecting the river from pollution, water scarcity, and pressures from human activities was highlighted.
The activity was implemented within the framework of the CASTOR project.
